You can make the "accordian" shorter (not as wide), but keep in mind that the slots between the vertical rods will be narrower then too. Alternately, if the narrowness doesn't bother you, I suppose you could choose not to screw some of the rods on, but the "base" accordion will still be there. Hope that makes sense! … see more

Unfortunately that would not work. If your space is limited, we have a smaller version. But we have a shorter one which is 6 sectional.

The piece doesn't come apart but it decreases in size by pushing it closer together. You just end up with more unused sections on either end because they are collapsed. Imagine a slinky that just gets expanded by pulling the middle apart. Hope that helps.
